Western Australia has seen some big changes in recent times in the response to COVID-19, and SOMO have adapted the way we do things, as we all learn how to navigate this new, temporary normal together.

It’s no surprise that people who are in the process of building or buying a new home may be feeling anxious in this time of uncertainty, but we can remain positive that this too shall pass.

In late March, the State Government has formalised that Residential Construction is being categorised as an ‘Essential Service’. We have received this authorisation because residential construction sites by their very nature are quite isolated and with only a handful of contractors on-site at any one time they are a safe space to continue to work as long as the health and safety guidelines are being adhered to.

Therefore, SOMO is still running business as usual, with our entire team working remotely from Monday 30th March 2020. This is our way of doing our bit to ensure that the sooner we stop the spread of COVID-19, the quicker we can all get back to life as we know it.

So how can you communicate with us?

  • Phone and video calls available with all members of our team

We want to stay in touch with you, and are happy to communicate through a variety of mediums including email, phone call, Zoom meeting, Skype and FaceTime.

This includes meetings with our Sales and Design team, appointments with our New Home Administrators, and checking progress on site with our Supervisors.

  • Virtual Pre-start meetings and selections

We are working to bring our Colour Selections and Pre-Start meetings online, and aim to have this available next week

  • Work on-site is marching on to ensure that your home is delivered within expected timeframes. Our site supervisors and trades are strictly adhering to government health and safety recommendations on site.
  • Practical Completion meetings will go ahead as scheduled. We will have strict distancing and health disclosure systems in place, which your Supervisor/New Home Administrator will run through with you prior to meeting.

We remain committed to supporting you in your new home building journey, and your health and the health of our team is our utmost priority. 

SOMO is backed by the JWH Group, one of Western Australia’s largest building groups, meaning that we have the financial strength, buying power and trade resources to weather this storm.

From our perspective, it’s never been a better time to build as we are expecting production to ramp up a little as subcontractors rely heavily on progress for their personal wages and with what is happening globally, they are doing their bit to keep the economy going.
